High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a serious condition and should not be ignored or put to the back of your mind. It is a serious condition that left untreated, over time can lead to serious heart disease and other cardio-vascular problems, and even on to death.

Stop Smoking. If you smoke, STOP! Everyone knows that smoking is not good for your health it affects breathing and brings toxins in to the body. Exercise. An increase in exercise can help to strengthen the cardiovascular system. This combats the stress cause by long periods of hypertension. Just 30 minutes exercise that causes increased heart rate and heavy breathing 3 times per week will help you win the fight against high blood pressure.

Weight Loss. One of the great side effects of exercising is weight loss. losing about 10% of your body will drasticly improve your blood pressure. Reducing salt in your diet should be a priority, but be careful of sodium amounts found in pre-packaged convenience foods.

Relax. Blood pressure can be raised over short periods when you are stressed. If you are over weight or have a family history of hypertension,  stress can adversely affect hypertension, raising it to much higher levels. Finding ways to relax helps to keep your blood pressure under control, and keeps your head clear which in itself gives you the ability to deal with situations.
