Is Your Skin Poisoning You?

You should be aware of the importance of a healthy diet. But the supermarkets are packed with ‘foods’ containing additives and preservatives, and who knows, or even who is prepared to tell us how the cumulative effect of these ‘toxins’ is going to affect our bodies over the years.

Eating is not the only way of putting toxins in to the body.

But what about your skin? It is after all, the largest organ of the your body.

Your skin performs many important functions without any outside interference. It is a two way membrane that offers the first line of defence against infection and helps to rid the body of toxins. Not only does your skin offer protection, it will also help to create or transfer necessary vitamins and minerals to the blood stream from sources like sunlight and the ultraviolet light within sunlight.

Natural Massage OilBecause your skin is built to transfer vitamins and minerals in and out of the body, you should care about how to “care for your skin“.  Many of the skincare products you can buy today include an array of potentially harmful synthetic chemicals and preservatives, and as we have already covered above, the skin will absorb these chemicals in to the bloodstream and from there could even be transfered to new born babies through breast milk.

Below are some of the chemicals found in modern day skin care products:

Triclosan: A synthetic antibacterial agent. Concerns have been raised  about Triclosan and the link to highly carcinogenic chemical dioxins. These dioxins can be the cause of severe health problems including:

  • weakening of the immune system

  • decreased fertility

  • altered sex hormones

  • birth defects

  • cancer

Sodium Laureth Sulphate: This is a harsh detergent used in industry as a degreaser. This substance is known to affect eczema sufferers and people with other skin complaints. Sodium Laureth Sulphate strips the top layers of your skin of its moisture causing it to dry out and tighten.

Paraffinum Liquidum: A petroleum by-product that clogs your pores which restricts your skin’s ability to eliminate toxins from within your body.

Parabens: A preservative used to prolong the shelf-life of products, these can cause gastric irritation, skin rashes, and can affect asthma-sufferers in particular. There is currently much research and controversy concerning a possible link between parabens used in deodorants and breast-cancer.

These are only a few of the most prevalent chemicals found in “Skin Care” products today.

Is there an answer?

Natural Baby OilWell there are some out there that believe there is. One such visionary is Catherine Sidney, founder of Natural Blends, which is an independent skin care provider whos products only includes natural ingredients that are blended to suit different conditions and requirements. Originally Catherine needed a remedy for one of her newborn children, and modern scientific remedies where failing. She found the answer through nature and from this went on to complete exstensive research and gained a diploma in Naturopathy. Natural Blends was born.

If you suffer from even mild skin compliants, it could be possible that you are reacting to the strong chemical processes occurring in your skin care products, look for an independent natural skin care provider that isn’t sponsored by the big cosmetics firms, and just maybe you’ll find worry free skin care.
